On the 5th of May, the entire Ortus Sec 1 went on a journey to Little India, learning more about the culture and taking pictures. The week before, we went to plan for the pictures and information required for our project to design a tour for the China YOG athletes. Mr Kong and Mr Tan, brought us to Little India and dispersed us beside the Little India MRT station.
My group which comprises of me, Teik Jun, Richmond, Wei Jian and Koh Ling Tian. We first went to Little India Shopping Arcade. We were surprised and amazed by the various kinds of souvenirs and knick-knacks. What intrest us the most was the Henna Painting. The Indian Lady carefully squeezed out the Henna on the person's hand. We looked at the book which contain all the designs that they made through henna painting. The designs were extremely beautiful and I wad told they even use Henna painting during Weddings.
After that, we went to the Sri Veerama Kaliamman Temple and Serangoon Road. The Temple was magnificent. There were many sculptures of people on the roof on the temple. The people told us the story "Kalamman the courageous". The temple was nicely build in the interior.
Next we went to visit Tekka Centre. It is a extremely large food centre. There were many Variety of food and Drinks. There were many stalls which had newspaper cuttings and awards. Tekka Centre had food from different Cuisine. If we were not there for the project, we would probably have a hard time choosing food.
We also went to Mustafa Centre. It a gigantic department store which sells many goods, ranging from Jewellery to clothes and stationery. The items sold there were extremely cheap.
Also during the journey we say different people and shops on the streets that are able to bring out the indian culture, such as the Fortune Teller and the Store selling Indian Snacks such as Murukku.
After this learning journey to Little India, the experience we got is far more that we can imagine compared to the internet, and we are able to find out so much more that can only be done if we are there to see it. In our website that states about the tour, we are able to present every single detail about each place we go. We were also able to tell the history for each place there. I feel that this Trip was fruitful and I can go to such learning journeys again.
